Exterior Painting Project – 2025 and Beyond
Help Us Refresh the Face of Our Cathedral!
The Cathedral is embarking on an exciting long-term project: repainting the entire exterior of the Cathedral, including the Lady Chapel and Loaves and Fishes. This work reflects our commitment to care for the place God has entrusted to us, ensuring it remains a visible and vibrant part of Wellington's cityscape for decades to come.
The work is already underway — but to complete it, we need your help.
Whether you can lend a hand with painting or water blasting, make a donation towards supplies and equipment, or offer encouragement and prayer, you will be part of a project that honours our Cathedral’s legacy and future.
Why Paint?
Faithfulness: We maintain the Cathedral as a visible witness to God’s presence in the heart of the city.
Protection: Timely maintenance extends the life of our building and prevents costly future repairs.
Pride: A clean, freshly painted Cathedral shows our pride in the faith community we belong to and welcomes all who come here.
How We Will Do It
Rather than hiring commercial painters, the Property and Maintenance Committee has designed a parish-led, patchwork approach:
Small sections at a time, as budget, access, weather, and volunteer availability allow.
Smart use of scaffolding already on site for other maintenance.
Careful stewardship of resources, balancing quality, safety, and cost.
Painting will primarily happen during the warmer months (November–April) but progress will continue year-round where possible.

Volunteer Your Time
We’ll be looking for people to help with water blasting and painting starting from November 2025.
Volunteers should be reasonably fit, able to follow simple instructions, and ready to make a difference one wall or window at a time!

Recruit Friends and Family
Know someone handy with a paint roller? Invite them to be part of this once-in-a-generation project.
We welcome adult children, spouses, grandchildren, friends, and neighbours.
OFFER SUPPORT IN OTHER WAYS
Can’t wield a paintbrush? Maybe you can provide morning tea for volunteers, run errands, or simply cheer us on!
Got an eye for detail? Help us with prep work like taping and cleaning.
Prefer behind-the-scenes? We’d love help coordinating supplies or volunteer rosters.
