A Gospel Welcome in the Heart of the City

Reflection - Sunday 7 July 2019

This Sunday it is both an honour and a privilege to welcome young people from across the city to join us for a Youth Service in their Cathedral. Our thanks go out to the hard working and energetic team from the Anglican Youth Movement who have thrown everything in to make all this possible. From the Cathedral’s perspective, our role is to open the door and express generous hospitality to those who come. Our prayer is that God would touch these young lives and set alight a passion for God in our diocese that will carry forward into the generations to come.

As we agreed at our last Annual meeting, our vision carries six strands: To be a worshipping community; to be a welcoming and caring community; to be a community of discipleship; to be a generous and inspirational community; to be a prophetic community; and to be a missional community. Opening the doors to young people across the city touches on every one of these strands and offers a springboard from which our vision can launch into the year ahead. We have very little else to do with the service – the coordination, the music, the teaching, and the ministry are all in hand – our task is to be a welcome... let’s pray that God would do some healing and transformative work in the lives of those who come.

So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith
