Please pray for … God’s Church

Pray for those being ordained by Bishop Tom on November 19th as they go on retreat, and for John Hughes leading the retreat and preaching at the service. to the Vocational Diaconate: Victoria Sibley, Janet Warren; to the Diaconate: Mark Barnard, Alex Brunt, James Clark , James Coleman, Chris Darnell, Catherine Froud, Cath Growcott, Amy Houben, Sue Little, Hennie Nothnagel, Sarah Nothnagel, Felicity O’Brien, Dave Smart, Bobbi Wilson. To the Priesthood: John Hancox, David Lacey, David Major, Terry McIvor, Robyn McLay, Robin Peirce, Lorraine Ridout, Lynda Wards, Franco Vaccarino, Pete Watson.

Pray for The Revd Julie Rokotakala as she is installed as Archdeacon for Kapiti on November 20th, and for the Te Ara Pono Cursillo team to be commissioned at the Cathedral on November 23rd.

A prayer for our Diocese as we prepare for the election of a new Bishop: God of all wisdom, patience and compassion; we come before you as a Diocese to seek your guidance as we work through the process of nominating our new Bishop. May our hearts, ears and eyes be open to listen, hear and be led by your Holy Spirit. Help us to lay aside our own desires and ambitions that true discernment can prevail and that the person you are calling will emerge. In all we do, may the name of your Son Jesus be glorified. Amen


God’s World As the Hope for the Child of War exhibition is held at the Cathedral, pray for the people of Burma, particularly ethnic minorities often displaced by the military. Pray for the work of Partners Relief & Development NZ, led by Ruth & Stu Corlett, seeking to help the children of Burma to lead free and full lives. Pray for pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi as she seeks to work with President Thein Sein towards positive change. Give thanks for Rob Harley and team's Big Bikes for Burma road trip and pray for safety as they travel.

Our Country Pray for our country in election mode over the next 10 days, for all who are standing as candidates that they will act with integrity and honesty, and for those for whom their Christian faith is important. Remember their families as they seek to support them. Pray for New Zealanders to consider the call from 7 national Church Leaders, including our Archbishop David Moxon, for all political parties to acknowledge their shared responsibility to provide adequate income for everyone, fair taxation policies, access to good health care, affordable housing, and provision for sustainable living.

Pray for all involved in the salvage of the Rena container ship in the Bay of Plenty, especially for salvors risking danger to get containers off the ship. Give thanks for those many volunteers involved in the clean up of oil from beaches, and of local birdlife. Remember the local fishing and tourism industries.

Our Community Pray for children and teachers in this busy Term 4, especially for those sitting school exams.

Sick, Suffering, Departed Pray for the community service in Greymouth on November 19 to mark the first anniversary of the Pike River Mine disaster, for clergy leading the service, and for all the Pike River Mine families.
